Medical and pregnancy history
The doctor reviews previous pregnancies, deliveries and complications alongside current conditions, medication, examinations, infection tests and uterine assessment. A previous uncomplicated pregnancy is informative; present suitability requires an individual assessment.
Counselling and support
Counselling addresses motivation, family support, treatment burden, communication, privacy and arrangements after birth. Participants need the opportunity to discuss pregnancy loss, prenatal testing, multiple pregnancy and other complex situations.
Consent and medical autonomy
ASRM’s US professional opinion emphasises risk information, independent legal representation and support, and the carrier’s authority over her own medical care. Explain the contract, local law and clinical arrangements separately and discuss important disagreements before transfer.
